Meet WHITNEY OWEN

Licensed Massage Therapist

Whitney has been practicing Massage Therapy since 2008. She studied at NICC in Calmar, IA and graduated with an Associates Degree as a Massage Therapy Specialist. She's worked in hospital & clinic settings, with hospice patients and in salon/ spa settings. Whitney's goals are to relieve her clients' pain and help them to prevent future discomfort while they completely de-stress and relax in a comfortable, safe setting.

Most people know Whitney as the massage therapist from Plush Salon but those closest to her know how passionate she is about nutrition and weight loss. She can spend hours reading and learning about food, biohacking and the best supplements on the market.

Her biggest success with weight loss was when she discovered the Paleo diet which led her to the ketogenic diet. For years Whitney followed a keto and carnivore lifestyle and enjoyed it until she started to experience health problems. Whitney started to learn about the importance of a healthy gut biome and how she had been neglecting her body's biggest defense system. She also learned how certain gut bacteria species can make or break your ability to stay healthy, young and lose weight. 

You know how little kids have such amazing energy levels and can eat anything without gaining an ounce? Well this is due to the gut bacteria species: bifidobacteria. As we age our lifestyles tend to kill off this beneficial bacteria and we start to encounter health problems and the inability to lose weight.

Meet JOEL GREENE

Joel launched the world’s first nutrition program based on the gut biome, VEEP Nutrition, in 2009. The concepts in his book, The Immunity Code, and his new book, The Way, are mind blowing. For example, another reason why we struggle so much with weight loss as we age is because every time we lose weight we are actually damaging our fat cells and this slowly hardens the extracellular matrix of the fat cells making it harder and harder for the cells to shrink in the future. 

Joel is also the only person who incorporates a simple strategy to prevent weight re-gain! No other diet program out there specifically targets your body's hormones to prevent the cascade of events that happen after weight loss. After weight loss our body will purposely increase hunger and slow the metabolism because that's our body's way of survival. Food will taste better as well and that's why it can be so hard to keep weight off and why so many people fail. 

 Whitney slowly started incorporating Joel's methods into her life including his gut reset protocol and his 2-day core meal plans.

She was very happy to find that she could live a lifestyle without extreme diet restrictions or obsessive macro/ calorie counting and still lose and maintain her goal weight. Meal prepping became easier and freed up so much valuable time.

Because of Joel's methods Whitney can be the fun mom again. While she still likes to limit how much sugar her kids eat, she can relax a little and be in the moment when they make sugar cookies together. She'll even occasionally make her famous homemade Mac n cheese that she hadn't made in years and the kids love it! 

Food can be such a social event and after COVID we know how important social connection is. Other strategies that can be found in Joel's books, offsetting and preloading, allows you to eat out with friends with little to no weight gain if done correctly.
